Plain answers to the questions that matter most

Find answers to common questions about our residential care services and approach.

— Placements and referrals

How do I make a referral?

Referrals can be made directly by a social worker, local authority, or independent reviewing officer. Contact us by phone or email and we will respond within one working day.

What age groups do you support?

We support children and young people aged 8 to 18. Each placement is assessed individually to ensure the environment and existing residents are the right match.

How quickly can a placement be arranged?

Emergency placements can be considered within 24 hours, subject to a matching assessment. Planned placements allow a more thorough transition process with visits and introductions.

Can families visit before a placement is confirmed?

Yes. We actively encourage visits. Seeing the home, meeting key workers, and asking questions in person is part of how we make the transition feel safe for everyone involved.

Who looks after a child overnight?

Trained residential workers are present throughout the night. Every shift is staffed to the ratios set in the child's placement plan, and a manager is always reachable on-call.

What happens when a young person is struggling?

Staff are trained in trauma-informed de-escalation. The first response is always relational — a known worker, a quiet space, time to settle. Physical intervention is a last resort, documented and reviewed.

How is education managed during a placement?

We work closely with the child's virtual school head and local authority to maintain continuity of education. Our education support workers attend reviews and accompany young people when needed.

How often does the placing authority receive updates?

Written reports are provided at the frequency agreed in the placement plan, typically monthly. Significant events are reported to the social worker and IRO within 24 hours.

— Careers and staff

Do I need a qualification to apply?

A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare is required for senior roles. For support worker roles we recruit on values and aptitude — structured training and qualification support begins from your first week.

What does the induction process look like?

Induction runs for four weeks and covers safeguarding, trauma-informed practice, behaviour management, and your key worker responsibilities. You are always supervised during the induction period.

How is staff wellbeing supported?

Regular reflective supervision, access to an employee assistance programme, and a management team that treats staff concerns as operational information — not complaints to be managed.
